On a visit to Cosens Bay Beach, 15 minutes South of downtown Vernon in the Community of Coldstream, BC.

It was mothers day today, and Lisa graciously accommodated our new Sunday sketching routine in spite of her special day. We hiked 4 km in with our children on our backs. It was a lovely hike in but a leg burner on the way back to the truck. We enjoyed yet another warm spring day on the beach of Kalamalka Lake. The water was still cold as ice, and there was the threat of a storm rolling in. We had a light picnic while Elizabeth waded in the fringes of the lake with a number of dogs to entertain her. Jack slept contently on the cozy beach blanket we had laid upon the sand beneath a popular tree. Today's image is from the point of view at Cosens Bay Beach toward Rattlesnake Point and on to the Kekuli Bay at the far side of the lake.

On a visit to Gardom Lake Park, a 15 minutes outside of Enderby, BC.

We went searching for what would be a phantom lake today and came upon Gardom Lake, of which we have been curious about for some time now. As Lisa put it “We found a little piece of paradise here today”. The sun was out in patches and the wind in waves, charging through the trees above. Elizabeth was playing in the cold water today. She is such a tough little girl, seemingly unaffected by obstacles. She is such a little adventurer. Jack was giggling and cooing at the spectacular scenery and the breeze blowing past his cheeks. It is a beautiful family park with a swimming beach and a playground with a nice quite wharf and beaches where which Lisa and I took time to decompress from the tensions of the past week. We will plan a canoe trip out here soon; it is definitely a serene, calm lake. The perspective of the image today was from the swim beach looking toward Turtle Island.

Sketch A0905 - Shorts Creek Falls

IMAGE A0905

Vincent Wright - April 26, 2009

On a hike to Shorts Creek Falls at Fintry, BC one hour drive south-west of Vernon, BC.

I went hiking with Lisa, our children, my two sister in-laws, Kristina and Angela and my future brother in-law, Neil. It was a spectacular sunny Okanogan day. We explored the heritage dairy farm at the base of the hike, we had particular interest in this today, as I had just met Neil for the first time a few days ago and he is a dairy farmer so I was learning a few things about how the dairy business works. The hike was 383 timber stairs with beautiful lookout points, we definitely will be back. I always enjoy, as do many, the falling and crashing of water with the negative ions giving me a spine tingling rush and a sense of euphoria. Jackson was filled with excitement, as at four months of age this would have been his first falling water experience so his senses where flooded with new sensations. Elizabeth now more than two years of age has seen many and was more interested with the rhythm and challenge of the stairs and the goal to make it to the top. It is interesting to see the different stages of development and perhaps personalities shaping what they find intriguing in a particular space.
